5 simple morning rituals to support your digestion, energy, and mood all day long

Do you wake up and scroll Instagram or check email first thing in the morning? Are you judging yourself or feel like I'm judging you? Please don't!

If you don't know this about me I strive to create a no-judgment zone for all of us here. Instead of judging yourself, ask yourself how this  morning scrolling makes you feel.

One of my clients told me it makes her feel happy.  She looks at pictures and videos of her nieces, which makes her laugh and fills her with joy. Wonderful, carry on then!

But for many of us, I'm guessing the mindless scroll isn't a desired habit first thing in the morning. When I fall into this pattern, I end up with an underlying feeling of agitation and not-enoughness.

I mean, I'm lying in bed, half-awake and already feel like I'm behind and not good enough.  Before I've even brushed my teeth I feel like I'm not doing enough, that my kitchen pantry isn't color coded (I don’t even have a pantry), that my home isn't tidy enough, that my breakfast isn't beautiful enough, or that I'm not successful enough. Oye! Who wants to live this way?!

This is where a morning routine comes in handy. Before you click away saying, “but I'm a busy mom with kids that wake up at the crack of dawn, I don't have time for a morning routine!"…hear me out.  I'm not asking you to wake up before your kids wake up if you don't want to.

Instead, I'm sharing with you how I help my clients integrate a morning routine even if they don't have time. I made a video to show you how a few quick and easy shifts in the morning can make a profound difference in your energy, focus and digestion for the rest of the day.

I'll share the cliff note's version with you below, but if you'd rather listen while meal prepping or sitting on the toilet (remember, no judgment!), here's a short video that I posted on Facebook a few weeks ago.

5 Simple Morning Rituals

(even if you have no time!)

  1. Find gratitude for something simple. Your breath, your cozy bed, the sunlight pouring in through the window. Keep it simple:)

  2. Drink a cup of hot water. This kindles the digestive system, flush out accumulated toxins, and hydrates the body!

  3. Eat a protein-rich breakfast within 60 minutes of waking. This is crucial for stabilizing the blood sugar, which is important for hormone balance. This can improve your energy and mood, while reducing anxiety and irritability.

  4. If you’re a coffee drinker, drink coffee after breakfast. Coffee on an empty stomach can wreak major havoc on your gut and hormones.

  5. Center yourself. Take at least 5 minutes to reflect, breathe deeply, and check in with yourself. If your kids are running amok, do your best:).  Practice mindful awareness and release judgment.

I got tons of positive feedback about this video! I'd love to hear how it goes for you. Give it a try and let me know in the comments.

Wishing you a productive AND restful day.
